Can You Do?
Your key to surviving any
emergency is to be prepared for it.
Basic preparedness actions you can take are:
Develop a Family Plan
for each type of Emergency
- Teach
family members how to turn off the water, gas and electricity at main
switches.
- Have
a fire evacuation plan for your home. Conduct
Drills.
- Have
a communications plan to contact family members.
- Prepare
a Disaster Supply Kit.
- Keep
a list of Important Telephone Numbers
Home Emergency Supplies
You could be isolated in
your home for several days. Some of the items you should have on hand include:
- Portable
Radio and Flashlight
- Extra
Batteries
- First
Aid Handbook and Kit
- Medicines,
Baby Supplies and Food for Special Diets
- Fire
Fighting Equipment including all-Purpose Extinguisher Rated A-B-C
- Water
for 3 Day Supply (One Gallon per Day per Person)
- Food
(Dry Canned for 3 day supply)
- Fuel
Heating Device – follow Manufacturer’s Instructions
- Tools
(Shovel, Wrenches to shut off utilities)
- Sleeping
Bags and Blankets
Car
Emergency Kit
Cars should be equipped
with supplies you may need in any emergency.

- Battery-Operated
Radio with Extra Batteries
- Blanket
- Booster
Cables
- Fire
Extinguisher
- First
Aid Kit with manual
