911 Information

When should you use 911?

It should be used for police, fire, or medical EMERGENCIES only.

Generally speaking, examples of an emergency would be that you have a fire or smoke condition requiring a fire department; you need an ambulance for a medical condition; to report traffic accidents; or you have an emergent need for police officers to respond as your safety or someone else's may be or has been jeopardized.

911 is not for calls requesting general information; to report minor incidents such as vandalism that previously occurred; to request overnight parking permissions; to report accidental alarm activations; or to report that one of your utilities is not working. These types of calls should be made to 973-377-0100.

If our dispatchers are currently handling 911 calls when you are placing one, the call will be automatically forwarded to another dispatch center for assistance.

If you are programming your speed dial for 911 and plan to test it, please call 973-377-0100 and advise the dispatcher ahead of time.
